We just wanted to let everyone know that all your pencils are being donated far and wide to children who will use them! Bronwyn Carnegie has taken a care package to Cambodia, to a charity she works with called Choice Cambodia.

Joy Godley posted a bunch to a school in Burma, started by a man named Myo Wynn. There are about 55 kids (pictured) at the school and the pencils were posted with 60 calculators. Good on you Joy.

The rest of our little gems are earmarked for local communities here in Australia, for example Umoona in South Australia. However if anyone has any other worthy causes, please feel free to contact us.

it's christmas in july! well it was about that long ago that our good, sagacious friends at exhibition studios sent these to us with their lovely red tags - it has taken us a while to find the right words to explain just how much we like the mitsubishi pencil... there's a big place in my heart for 'es'. some formative years there, and yes, they can make a giant kaleidoscope and a ball machine. thanks karl and jez for sending us es pencils.

lichens, fungi and a camera lucida

not only does this person make really, really good chutney, marmalade and the like; he also colours the fruit on botanical drawings with this almost flourescent orange pencil, uses a camera lucida - and is the dad of the best person we know. best and tallest. thank you for sending us some pencils stephen skinner!

emily and jay the champions donated these guys. you can find them at candy cranks or at jay's bike workshop (mountainbikes, fixies, vintage bikes, you break it, he seems to be able to fix it). not only does emily ride a bike like a bat out of hell and write zines (check out Open Mic), she gave us some pencils including a shiny pink number that says: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Giant Dipper 80th Anniversary 1924-2004 over 50 million riders. All on one pencil! Cool.

this came straight from the toolbox and jay is the only person to have given us a pencil with the tag attached by rope. awesome. look at those knots.

Juliana told us a wonderful story. She found some old pencil's in her architect grandfather's pencil box, which are probably 100 years old! When trying to figure out who made them and where they were from, she stumbled across an online drafting pencil museum, The Leadholder! What beauties!

wendy even gave us a cardboard box as well!

drilling in other people's workshops (opw)

Last week we went to a great place - Lachlan Colquhoun's Earthling Designs workshop. We saw the smallest Marshall amp we've ever seen (refer sandwich on desk for comparison) and the extremely kind and handy Lachlan did some test pencil-drilling for us. Thank you very much lads. Nick was doing stuff at the mixing desk and putting together a guitar pedal while this was going on. We got to see a bunch of their great custom guitar pedal covers; and now we have an awful lot of drilling to do.

mums are great. thanks mum! my sister and i noticed that whilst we had scribed our own names on our pencils (mine on an angle, even, and pretty illegible) mum wrote our brother's name on his for him... curious. my sister had a bunch of those pencils that have one colour on one end, another colour on the other.

Felicity & Claire are currently on the hunt for pencils. They have some weird dentist pencils already, they’re expecting a chinagraph from a navigator and some good old faber castells from a local high school – but they need more – probably a thousand more.

So, if you would like to donate a pencil, they would love to hear from you – just fill in the tag attached, wrap it around your pencil (a rubber band would be great, so they don’t lose it) and post it to them, or bring it to their studio drop box. Alternatively, Felicity/Claire can bring a drop box and some tags to your studio/school/local pub/café/shoe shop/pop up store/trendy hangout.

Description: Much Lead is an installation created by Felicity Gartelmann and Claire McCaughan of Sam Crawford Architects www.samcrawfordarchitects.com.au. Inspired by their Surry Hills studio neighbourhood, the work explores the idea of the pencil as a simple yet essential tool.

Donated by designers, makers, artists, tradespeople and students, the pencils will be suspended to create a canopy of colour, drawing together a surprising, cross-disciplinary community of pencil lovers.
